The Battle of Culloden

Impossible… That is how I would characterize my ability to give you even a hint of the significance of this battle. Instead here is a statement from the website:
“A powerfully emotive and atmospheric battlefield where the 1745 Jacobite Rising came to a tragic end.”

We joined a tour group where two talented interpreters treated us to animated stories as we proceeded around the battlefield.

Peter had done some research and found that Alexander Mackenzie, the famous explorer who mapped much of western Canada, was buried in the town of Avoch a short drive from our VRBO. We stopped on our way home and spent a few moments marvelling at the tenacity and adventuresome spirit of this Scotsman.

That battle forever changed the clan system and obviously changed Scotland forever. Tragic loss of life.
