OK…..Close your eyes, blink and pinch yourself. How did we get to the “Quebec Lodge” in North Western Ontario?

Cathy and I had planned this Thunder Bay trip to visit our daughter Sarah and her partner Therin as part of our seventieth birthday year. Immediately after exiting the arrivals area Sarah whisked us out of the airport and delighted us with news we were heading to a resort on Lake Superior near Nipigon. This gorgeous log structure was built in 1937 as housing for lumber executives. Ray, the current owner operates it as a B&B and fishing resort. My early morning walk caught the sun as it was splashing colors across the sky.
After a delicious breakfast we loaded up backpacks, water bottles and fixings for lunch and along with Willey and Sedona we headed out on a hiking adventure on the trail to Nipigon.

The pungent smell of decaying plants, clear babbling streams, slippery rocks, beautiful mushrooms, stupendous views, rocky outcrops, steep cliffs and the constant awe of a changing color palette in this amazing forest washed over us for hour after hour as we hiked our way toward Nipigon. At one point we came across two red Adirondack chairs put out by Parks Canada all over the country encouraging people to take selfies and share their experiences.

Here is a gallery to help you imagine the beauty and intrigue of this incredible area of magnificent beauty and biodiversity. Click on an image to start a slide show.

A magnificent part of Ontario. Love the varieties of mushrooms you’ve photographed – can almost smell the mixture of loam, evergreen and woodland by looking at them. What a great way to celebrate a birthday.
Multigenerational trips are the best. This one looks spectacular.
