Hiking the Highlands

Two days have flown by leaving us with a dizzying array of sights, sounds and smells as we toured Ben Affric and the seaside towns of Portknockie and Cullen.

While it wasn’t a ‘Three dog night’ is was a ‘Two touque morning’ as we started our hike from ‘Dog Falls’. Note the hardy women don’t need a head covering.

Snow on the top of the high hills was fitting for the chill in the air.

While hiking an open area I notice a wolf spider crossing the trail. It was surprisingly willing to have a portrait taken and happy to show off all those eyes.

Scottish humour was evident as we came upon a spot on the trail were electric cables were buried under the trail with an appropriate head stone.

Yesterday started with a drive along the northern shore as we headed to Portknockie. We had seen a number of Canola fields in full bloom and had a chance to stop here and get some pictures of the local agriculture.

Portknockie is an old fishing village with a well known feature called Bow Fiddle Rock just off the shore. We spent a few hours exploring the wonders of a beautiful sea coast.

The more adventuresome among us climbed to the top of a scramble of heather and rock.

The rock is home to many nesting birds. I was able to see Cormorants, Gulls, Razorbills and Mures on the nests.

Carrying along the shore on our way to the next village of Cullen we experienced strong chilling winds, quiet sheltered bays, rock pools with creatures and sea weed, storm clouds, soaring gulls, flowering bushes, birds feeding their young, butterflies and a long sweeping sandy beach that was a delight for dogs and people.

Ahhh! Scottish spring! Lovely shots and beautiful countryside. It is stunning scenery seen through your camera lens. No snow here nor toques required. Almost wish they were. Plus 33 this Saturday. Looks like you are all having a wonderful holiday. ❤️

Sure enjoying your hikes, via this blog!!!
As always, the photos are spectacular and so darn real!!! But I was quite happy not to run into Mr. Spider, though I know it delighted you Trent!
I love the tiny roads and was imaging driving along with no traffic and only grass and sheep on the sides of the road.
Today in Edmonton woke to lots of smoke and smell, but breeze is moving it a bit. Feeling for the thousands out of their homes. Enjoy those rain clouds!
